There is a great deal of literature and controversy surrounding this topic. Basically the concept of Kinetic Linking is the use of torque, rotation and the sequential acceleration of the striking surface towards the point of impact. Think of a good golf swing, the golfer does not simply swing her arms to enable a 200 yard drive. She uses the torque and rotation of her body to store kinetic energy. As she begins her downswing the stored energy is released and multiplied by the sequential use of the ankles, knees, hips, back, shoulders, arms and finally the hand. It works exactly the same way for Self Defence.
At StreetSense our philosophy for designing our StreetSafe program was that it had to be effective when applied by a small individual against a larger/stronger attacker. We only teach techniques that are simple to learn, and proven to be effective in a combat situation. They are also skills that can be taught and mastered in a four hour course.
We ensure that each participant learns the correct bio-mechanical application of each technique and then we teach them how to use Kinetic Linking to increase the power of their Self Defence techniques exponentially. Then we place them in the Adrenal Stress Response against a Padded Attacker in order to allow them to put all of the concepts into practice. Our attack scenarios are thoroughly researched and based on how attacks actually occur. It is this realism that addresses the emotional and psychological aspects of violent assults that are so often overlooked in Self Defence courses.
